Obituary

Obituary for Catrese Shubrick-Tucker

Springfield- Catrese Felicia “Trese” Shubrick-Tucker, 56, transitioned peacefully, earning her wings to walk with the angels on Thursday, October 29, 2020, surrounding by loved ones in the comfort of her home in Springfield, MA. Born on July 16,1964 in Opa-Locka, FL, she was the daughter of the late Henry Plucky Shubrick Sr. and the late Willie Pearl “Vergie” Jones.

Catrese was a proud prodigy of the Springfield Public School system. She attended Myrtle Street Elementary, graduated from the Springfield Technical High School in 1983, and continuing her education at Holyoke Community College. Trese was employed more than twenty-years by the State of Massachusetts Turnpike Authority (MTA), where her affectionate, genuine, and vibrant spirit leaves fond memories placed in the hearts of her co-workers and patrons.

Catrese was known as a hard worker, and passionate laborer. Upon her retirement from the MTA, she obtained her Commercial Drivers License and began working for First Student as a bus driver at the Springfield Public School Department. In addition, to being a CPA Direct Care Worker who lovingly cared for two clients in her home for three years. Catrese loved bringing joy to family, friends and people in general. She believed in doing her part by volunteering to make a difference in the community. She participated in Public service assignments, an avid mentor and counsel who was dedicated to the Hampden County Sheriff Department’s Western Mass Regional Women’s Correctional facility in Chicopee every Saturday. She took pride and triumph in all her work because it aligned with her spiritual belief and purpose in life to be as forthcoming, kind, and caring towards others.

Family-oriented, Trese was a dedicated and passionate wife, mother, and grandmother who deeply loved her brothers and sisters and adored every one of her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Trese was known by many names, such as “Tresie Mama” quite often when she was cleaner than a board of health! But her favorite one was Mom, and the love for her children inspired her to want to bring them joy, nurture their spirits, and guide their steps; she was quite simply the best.

If you were fortunate to share a meal with her, you knew that one of her hobbies was cooking. It was exciting for her to find new recipes and experimenting with new spices was one of her favorite things. She had a fondness for family gatherings, where she loved playing spades and spreading her contagious smile and jubilant spirit while dancing and singing along to her favorite jams. Without question, Trese was a woman of class. she loved to get dressed up in the latest fashion trends, some of her favorite treasures were her rhinestones, bright colors, mink fur coats, and wearing one of her big Sunday’s Best church hats and suits.

Her deep and abiding love of Christ was exemplary, and she practiced her faith as an active and faithful member of Zion Community Baptist Church. Catrese was a resilient, strong God-fearing woman who cared fiercely and loved deeply. She was a sweet social butterfly who would open her home to anyone and give the clothes off her back to someone in need. As a woman of faith, she loved reading and studying the Bible, and as a prayer warrior, she believed “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13) Catrese was the epitome of grace, humility, strength, beauty, and elegance.

She was preceded in death by her brother Kevin Shubrick, and sister Roslyn Jones. She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted husband, James Tucker of Springfield, four daughters Tocarra Johnson of Springfield, Maleka, (John, fiancé) Tucker of Maryland, Kenya Tucker of Maryland and Dyminiqua Tucker of Springfield, two granddaughters Jeriah Wade of Springfield and Madison Reign Muskelly of Maryland. Her two brothers Rodrick (Marvenia) Shubrick Sr. of Springfield and Henry (Keisha) Shubrick Jr. of Miami; two sisters, Rochelle Barrows-Jones, and Sonya (Kevin) Hightower both of Springfield, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, family and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.

“Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They mean we will miss you until we meet again.”

Calling hours will take place on Friday, November 6, 2020, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 17 John Street, Springfield, MA., followed by her burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA.
